We can hardly contain our excitement about the opportunity to bring our ministry to New York City and begin hosting mission teams this coming summer of 2018. As you will see later in this post, for many reasons, it has been a dream of ours to mobilize teams to serve this great city. However, when Kaleo establishes a ministry presence in a city, we intend to become true partners in serving the city and intend to be there for the long-term. As a result, it has always been the commitment of Kaleo to not move into a new city unless we establish meaningful ministry partnerships where our teams can truly be a blessing and until we are confident that we can create missions experiences for teams that are both meaningful to our partners in the city and transformative to those serving.
Over the last year, we have established great relationships with ministries such as those serving the large immigrant population of New York, those serving the homeless, and ministries planting churches all over the city. We are excited and prepared to create meaningful mission experiences for your team this upcoming summer.
So why New York City? Kaleo is committed to serving well in each of our cities. But for us, a mission trip is not just about doing. It is also about humbly listening and learning. We have seen time and time again that our Kaleo participants often learn more from people we are serving than those we are serving do from us. New York City will provide your team incredible opportunities to both serve the city and to learn from the city, and in the process, to deepen your faith and understanding of the relationship between the Gospel and God’s call on our lives to love others and make Christ known.
New York has the largest population of people experiencing homeless than any other city in the United States at over 73,000. That essentially means that 1 out of every 8 people experiencing homelessness in the United States lives in New York City. Additionally, New York contains the largest number of foreign-born residents, with more foreign-born people in New York City then the total number of people in Chicago. But beyond those numbers, New York is also home to incredible ministries and churches who have been loving the city for decades and have an incredible amount to teach us in terms of how to love the poor and marginalized in our own communities.
We would love for your group to come serve and learn with us in New York. The cost for a 5-night trip is only $315 per person and includes all of your food, housing and ministry expenses.
