new orleans downtownThe uniqueness of New Orleans came to the attention of all Americans on August 29, 2005 when Hurricane Katrina made landfall as a category 3 storm and surged over the levees, taking the lives of over 700 New Orleaners.   Thousands of volunteers flooded the area to help “gut” the houses that had been submerged under water, and then to help rebuild as conditions improved.

New Orleans claims to be the “Most Interesting City” and is world-famous for many things, including jazz, the French Quarter and Creole cuisine.

The needs are great, as well.  The day that Katrina hit, the Census Bureau released a report on poverty in the U.S., finding that Orleans Parish had a poverty rate of 23.2 percent, seventh highest among 290 large U.S. counties.  An estimated 12,000 people, or 4% of New Orleans’ estimated population after Katrina, are homeless.

The ministries serving year round in New Orleans are extremely creative, faithful and necessary- reaching out to those in need, including impoverished kids, the homeless, AIDS patients, displaced families and the elderly.

We invite you to bring your group to serve with us in this beautifully unique city- New Orleans, Louisiana.
