I was frustrated, tired, and discouraged. I remember two other Kaleo Staff and I prayed in the car to get focused before we went downtown. We ended up sitting with a group of homeless people under the Burnside Bridge. Before I knew it, we were all in some really great conversations. It was incredible to see some of the younger volunteers really breaking out of their comfort zones and genuinely engaging the people around them. Of the friends we met, there were various illness, addictions, and real hurt amongst them. So when I had my sobering moment, I realized that what I, and possibly the rest of my group, needed was to learn how to listen better, which was perfect because I think our new friends really just needed someone to talk to and share their stories with.
I imagine this is the type of thing Jesus would be doing, which is why I felt so blessed in that moment to be a part of something outside of myself for the furthering of the kingdom.
